Argentina Joins United States and Canada as a Top Source Market for Dominican Republic Tourism, Driven by 62.3% Growth in 2025 and Increased Air Connectivity

Argentina joins the United States and Canada as a top source market for Dominican Republic tourism, with a 62.3% growth in 2025, fueled by enhanced air connectivity.

In 2025, Argentina experienced a remarkable 62.3% growth in the number of tourists visiting the Dominican Republic, totaling 442,088 visitors, according to the latest annual report from the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic. This surge has propelled Argentina to become the third-largest source market for the Caribbean destination, following the United States and Canada.

The 2025 increase marks an additional 169,638 Argentine tourists compared to 2024, when 272,450 arrivals were recorded. Early indications suggest that this upward trend is continuing into 2026, with a nearly 10% increase in Argentine arrivals in January 2026 compared to the same month in 2025.

The Appeal of the Dominican Republic

One of the main factors driving this surge in Argentine tourism to the Dominican Republic is the country’s increasingly appealing offerings. The destination’s diversified tourism products, combined with improved air connectivity, have made it an attractive option for Argentine travelers. Many choose the Dominican Republic for its pristine beaches, adventure-filled excursions, and historical tours.

The Dominican tourism office in Argentina pointed to the greater flight availability and an extensive range of tourism options as key reasons why the Dominican Republic is growing in popularity among Argentine vacationers.

Traveler Demographics and Preferences

Argentine visitors to the Dominican Republic tend to stay for an average of nine days. A significant portion of these tourists (57%) travel with their families, while 16% are senior citizens and another 16% are adults without children. Additionally, 11% of visitors are categorized as adventure travelers seeking outdoor activities.

Most Argentine tourists tend to organize their trips independently, with more than half (53%) booking packages that include both airfare and accommodations. This flexibility makes the Dominican Republic accessible to a wide range of travelers.

Record Flight Numbers and Expanding Air Connectivity

Direct flights from Argentina to the Dominican Republic have become more frequent, thanks to the efforts of both Aerolíneas Argentinas and Arajet. These airlines helped Argentina surpass the milestone of 200,000 direct seats to the Caribbean destination for the first time in 2025. Copa Airlines also contributed to connectivity with its Panama hub, providing access to an additional 700,000 seats.

The introduction of new routes has further bolstered this connectivity. In December 2025, Arajet launched the Córdoba–Punta Cana route, and the airline plans to offer non-stop flights from Mendoza starting in May 2026, followed by a new direct route from Rosario in June. This expansion will allow Argentine travelers to access the Dominican Republic without needing to transit through Buenos Aires, further increasing convenience and making the destination more accessible to travelers from all regions of Argentina.

Most Popular Activities and Attractions

Argentine visitors are eager to experience the diverse range of activities available in the Dominican Republic. The top activity remains a tour to Saona Island, which attracts 72% of Argentine tourists. Other popular excursions include snorkeling (16%), colonial zone tours (13%), visits to Catalina Island (12%), and buggy or 4×4 vehicle rides (9%).

Punta Cana is the primary arrival point, handling 90% of Argentine travelers. Other favored destinations include Samaná, Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, and La Romana. Newer destinations like Miches are gaining traction, thanks to recent investments in sustainable tourism, positioning the area as a rising star on the tourism map.

A Strong Future for Tourism and Economic Ties

The Dominican Republic’s appeal continues to grow among Argentine travelers, solidified by increased flight options, a variety of attractions, and a robust hotel infrastructure. As Argentina strengthens its position as one of the Dominican Republic’s top tourist markets, tourism and economic exchanges between the two countries are expected to thrive in the coming years.

With improved air links, enhanced vacation packages, and an expanding hotel offering, the Dominican Republic is poised to remain one of the most popular international destinations for Argentine tourists well into the future. As the tourism market grows, both nations will benefit from the reciprocal economic and cultural exchange.
